Why do people go bikepacking?

“Cycling is healthy” says Sara. She enjoys the fitness benefits of cycling and for her it is a beautiful way to move. But even more importantly, cycling is a way for her to clear her head. “Other people like to do yoga or meditation, for me, cycling is my meditation”. When she comes back home after biking, her head is clear and her mind is calm.

Chris Hall, a cyclist and designer, has a similar purpose for sitting on his bike. “As someone who does struggle with depression, it’s always been my own personal way to get rid of those inner demons. It’s literally changed my life for a positive”.

Using his bike to travel is the most beautiful thing for Chris. To him it feels like freedom because he doesn´t have to rely on public transportation and he can explore places he wouldn´t see otherwise.

“You are traveling fast enough to be able to really cover some distance, to see the scenery change. But slow enough that you can truly absorb it. The smells, the sights, those kinds of things are missed when you travel in a car for example.”

Chris is convinced that more people should go bikepacking because it will get them out of their comfort zone and open their minds about many things. It can be a way of travelling socially with friends as well as an individual form of escapism.

In Sara´s opinion a lot of people don´t dare to go bikepacking because they are afraid of what might happen to them. She explains in the video why there is no need to worry.
